Deel review: pricing, payroll and the fees Deel does not publish

Deel charges $599 per employee per month for its employer of record (EOR) service, $49 per contractor and $325 per Contractor of Record, according to its pricing page (checked October 16, 2026). Deel Global Payroll, for companies with their own foreign entity, is quote only, and the US PEO is $125 per employee.
Those fees come on top of salary and local employer taxes. Deel does not publish its deposit or FX margin, and its own pages give three different country counts.
Deel is a global hiring platform that employs workers abroad on your behalf as an employer of record, pays contractors, runs payroll on your own foreign entities and offers a US PEO.

Deel publishes its main prices, sells almost every global hiring product, and has the largest review base of any EOR we track. It loses points for an unpublished deposit, no FX markup figure, a contradictory country count and repeated reports of payroll errors in 2026.

Deel pricing by product
| Product | Published price | What it covers | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Employer of record (EOR) | $599 per employee per month | Deel is the legal employer in the worker's country and runs payroll, taxes, benefits and contracts | One headline price. No monthly vs annual split and no country price list on the page |
| Contractors | $49 per contractor per month | Contracts, invoices and payouts for independent contractors | You keep the classification risk |
| Contractor of Record | $325 per contractor per month | Deel takes on the classification liability for the contractor | Priced like a light EOR for contractors |
| Global payroll | Quote only | Payroll on your own foreign entity in 150+ countries (global payroll page) | No price published |
| US PEO | $125 per employee per month | Co-employment for US staff | Promo forms signed Jul 15 to Dec 31, 2026 need a two-year term |

The EOR fee is the one most buyers come for. It is a flat $599 per employee per month on Deel's pricing page, and Deel says "All costs... are included in your quoted price" with "no surprise fees". That fee sits on top of the worker's salary and the employer taxes of their country, which Deel bills at cost.
Contractors are much cheaper at $49 a month, but you carry the risk that a local authority treats the contractor as an employee. Contractor of Record at $325 moves that risk to Deel. Our page on how contractor of record works explains when the extra $276 a month makes sense, and contractor payment tools compares the $49 tier with cheaper options.
What is Deel payroll?
"Deel payroll" can mean two products. Deel Global Payroll runs payroll for employees on a legal entity you already own abroad, in 150+ countries according to Deel's global payroll page. Deel does not publish a price for it, so you need a quote. Deel EOR is different: Deel's own entity employs the worker, so you do not need a local company at all, and you pay the $599 fee.
If you have five or more people in one country, compare the two. A quote for payroll on your own entity is usually far below an EOR fee per head, but you take on the entity setup, local filings and the employer liability. Our guides on EOR vs global payroll and when to open your own entity walk through the break-even, and global payroll providers lists the vendors that publish payroll prices (Deel does not).
What Deel costs for a real team
| Team size | EOR at $599 | EOR per year | Contractors at $49 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 person | $599 a month | $7,188 | $49 a month |
| 5 people | $2,995 a month (5 x $599) | $35,940 | $245 a month |
| 10 people | $5,990 a month (10 x $599) | $71,880 | $490 a month |
| 25 people | $14,975 a month (25 x $599) | $179,700 | $1,225 a month |

Fees are only the start. Here is one employee in Mexico, using the official employer cost figures from our Mexico employer cost page.
| Cost line | Per year | How we got it |
|---|---|---|
| Gross salary | $40,000 | MXN 740,000 at 18.52 MXN per USD (ECB cross rate, Oct 15, 2026) |
| Employer contributions and mandatory extras | $12,720 | 31.8% x $40,000: IMSS, INFONAVIT, Mexico City payroll tax, aguinaldo and vacation premium |
| Deel EOR fee | $7,188 | $599 x 12 |
| Total before deposit and FX | $59,908 | $40,000 + $12,720 + $7,188 |
| Deposit | Not published by Deel | Ask for the amount and refund timing in writing |

The Deel fee equals 18% of the salary in this example ($7,188 / $40,000 = 17.97%). On a lower salary the share is bigger, because the fee is flat. A buyer on Hacker News described hires being offered "5-6k EUR lower salary to cover the fees" (HN, Feb 2024). Does Deel own its entities?
Deel's EOR page says: "We handle everything through our wholly-owned entities." An earlier read of the same page said "We own entities and payroll engine in 130+ countries" while claiming 150+ countries of coverage. Both cannot be true for every country. The gap of roughly 20 countries implies partner coverage somewhere, and Deel publishes no list of which.
This matters when something goes wrong: with a partner, a payroll error or a termination dispute involves a third company. Ask Deel to confirm in writing whether its own entity employs your worker in your specific country. Our guide to how an EOR works covers the owned vs partner models.
How many countries does Deel cover?
| Where Deel says it | Figure | What it describes |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing page meta description | 100+ countries | General coverage |
| EOR page | "We own entities and payroll engine in 130+ countries" | Owned entities |
| EOR page compliance section | 150+ countries | Coverage |
| Global payroll page | 150+ countries | Payroll coverage |
Source: Deel pricing, EOR and global payroll pages, checked October 16, 2026.
The four figures describe different things (owned entities, general coverage, payroll), but Deel does not label them consistently. For buying purposes, the only number that counts is whether Deel can employ in your country through its own entity, at the $599 price, today.
Support
Deel's EOR page promises "24/7 in-app support", a dedicated onboarding manager for each new hire, and an employee experience team. Reviewers say an AI bot sits in front of human support. A Trustpilot reviewer on Oct 14, 2026 wrote that the bot filters out urgent issues, and another on Oct 15, 2026 described slow answers (Deel on Trustpilot). If your team will need phone access to a named person, ask whether your plan includes one.
What Deel customers complain about
Deel holds 4.7 out of 5 from 7,180 reviews on G2 and 4.6 from 9,652 reviews on Trustpilot (both seen Oct 16, 2026; 91% five-star, 5% one-star on Trustpilot). The negative reviews cluster around three issues:
- Payroll and tax errors. An employer wrote on Oct 13, 2026 that "we must reject it at least once every time due to errors on the DEEL side". A worker said on Oct 14, 2026 that Deel "incorrectly processed my salary for two consecutive months" after a raise. A Sep 26, 2026 review describes a missed Japan resident tax deduction.
- Support behind a bot. Two reviews from Oct 14 and Oct 15, 2026 describe slow or automated answers.
- Contract changes after signing. A Sep 30, 2026 reviewer described "Changing a signed contract afterwards digitally and telling that this is business practice".
Contractor fees draw complaints too. In older Hacker News comments (2022 to 2023), one contractor said they paid "almost 100$ each month just to make a transfer" (HN), and another pointed out that Deel's $49 monthly minimum is more than some freelancers are paid (HN).
What works
- Published prices for EOR, contractors, Contractor of Record and US PEO
- One platform for every hiring model, so you can move a contractor to EOR without switching vendors
- Largest review base of any EOR-specific profile we track (7,180 on G2, 9,652 on Trustpilot)
- "No surprise fees" stated on the pricing page
Watch out for
- No published deposit, FX margin or global payroll price
- Country and owned-entity counts conflict (100+, 130+, 150+)
- Promo PEO order forms carry a two-year term and full list price on early exit (EOR terms could not be read)
- Repeated 2026 reports of payroll errors and bot-first support
Who Deel fits, and who should look elsewhere
Deel fits a company hiring a mix of contractors and employees across several countries that wants one vendor and one invoice, and is willing to pay list price for that. It also fits a company with US staff that wants Deel's $125 US PEO next to its foreign EOR hires.
Look elsewhere if the $599 fee is a large share of a modest salary, if you want a published deposit rule, or if you only need contractors at volume. The cheaper or better documented options:
- Remote: same $599 starting price, with "100% owned entities" claimed in 90+ countries and published terms (but 12-month auto-renewing defaults).
- Multiplier: $459 a month billed annually or $499 monthly, with a no-markup FX claim.
- Pebl, formerly Velocity Global: $399 a month, with a 12-month term per worker on its Employee Term model.
- Oyster: $699 a month, but one of only two EORs we track (with Playroll) that state a deposit size.
- Rippling EOR: quote only, worth it if you already run Rippling.

How Deel scores
Deel scores 54/100, which places it 8th of the 13 EOR providers we score. The top score is Multiplier at 79. Every point below comes from a published fact or documented complaints; the rules are in how we score providers.
| Criterion | Points | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Price per employee | 16 of 25 | Publishes EOR at $599 per employee per month (checked Oct 16 2026), in the $500 to $599 band (16). |
| Hidden costs disclosed | 7 of 20 | Deposit not stated by Deel, with only a secondary source citing about one month's gross salary (0); FX described only as 'competitive exchange rates' (1); no offboarding or setup fees are listed and the FAQ makes only a general 'no surprise fees' statement (3 + 3). |
| Entity ownership and country coverage | 13 of 20 | Says it uses 'wholly-owned entities' but its own pages give 130+ owned against 150+ covered (9); country counts of 100+, 130+ and 150+ conflict, so the lowest, 100+, scores 6 minus 2 (4). |
| Contract terms | 5 of 15 | The FAQ promises month-to-month pricing, but promo order forms need a two-year term and early exit owes full list price (3); the notice period is not published because the EOR terms would not load (0); the promo penalty is documented (2). |
| Support and compliance help | 7 of 10 | Claims 24/7 in-app support (4) and a dedicated onboarding manager for each new hire (3). |
| Documented complaint patterns | 6 of 10 | Trustpilot 4.6 from 9,652 reviews (4 of 4); payroll errors, an AI bot in front of support, high fees for small teams, and outages or contract changes after signing (several each) leave 2 of 6. |
| Total | 54 of 100 |

Our verdict
Bottom line: Deel scores 54/100. Its $599 EOR price is the market's middle, its product range is the widest, and its terms say "no surprise fees". The surprises that remain are the ones Deel does not publish: the deposit, the FX margin and, on promotional PEO order forms, a two-year commitment. Those gaps are why Deel ranks below Multiplier, Oyster and Remote. Get the three in writing and Deel works well for a company that wants every hiring model on one platform.
