International employee cost calculator

Employer contributions on a salary of about USD 40,000 are 14.88% in the United Kingdom, 21.30% in Germany and 31.8% in Mexico, based on each country's official 2026 rates (checked October 16, 2026). An EOR adds a monthly fee on top, from $399 to $699 per employee at published list prices.

The calculator below applies each country's rate to your salary and adds the EOR fee you enter. The sections after it explain where caps make the flat rate too high or too low.

International employee cost is the gross salary plus the employer's mandatory contributions in the employee's country (social security, pension, health and statutory bonuses) plus any employer of record fee.

Choose the country, enter the annual gross salary in local currency, and enter the EOR fee you were quoted. The calculator shows the employer's mandatory contributions for a year in local currency and the EOR fee for a year in US dollars. Salary plus both is your all-in cost.

Estimated employer contributions per year
0

Employer rates from each country's official sources, measured at a salary of about USD 40,000 (checked October 16 and 17, 2026). The default fee of $599 a month is Deel's and Remote's published EOR list price. This is an estimate for budgeting, not a quote.

How the calculator works

  1. Employer contributions = your salary x the country's employer cost rate. The rate is what one employee on about USD 40,000 costs the employer in mandatory contributions, as a share of gross pay. For example 14.88% in the United Kingdom, 21.30% in Germany and 31.8% in Mexico.
  2. EOR fee = your monthly fee x 12, in US dollars. Most EORs bill a flat monthly fee per employee.
  3. The calculator does not convert currencies. Contributions show in the local currency; the fee shows in dollars. Convert at your EOR's rate, which may include a markup.

Each rate includes what the country row says it includes. Mexico's 31.8% includes the aguinaldo, vacation premium and Mexico City's 4% payroll tax. Germany's 21.30% is before the U1/U2 levies and accident insurance. Canada's 7.86% is federal CPP and EI only, before provincial health taxes and workers comp. The full breakdown for each country is on its country page and in the employer cost by country index.

Why caps change the share at other salaries

The rate is measured at one salary. Many countries stop charging above a ceiling, and some charge nothing below a threshold, so the real share moves with pay. At salaries well above USD 40,000 the calculator overstates the cost in capped countries and can understate it in uncapped ones.

For a high earner, work through the caps on the country page, or ask the EOR for a line-by-line quote and check it against them.

Sources: countries.csv rows for each country (GOV.UK, Deutsche Rentenversicherung and vdek, INEGI and the Ley Federal del Trabajo, plus secondary IMSS rate tables for Mexico), checked October 16, 2026; EOR fees from each provider's pricing page, checked October 16, 2026. UK sample salary is GBP 30,000; Germany uses EUR 35,000 (about USD 40,000 at an assumed 1.15 USD per EUR); Mexico uses MXN 740,000 (USD 40,000 at 18.52 per USD, ECB cross rate Oct 15, 2026).

For Mexico the calculator shows MXN 235,320 instead of MXN 235,271 because it uses the rounded 31.8% rate. Mexico also has profit sharing (PTU) of 10% of taxable profit, which is not included. One employer reported that its EOR in Mexico required the mandatory severance up front in escrow (Hacker News, Jan 2023, more than three years old), so ask about deposits before you sign.

The fee is a large share of the bill. In the United Kingdom a $599 fee costs more than the GBP 4,462.80 in contributions. In Mexico contributions are the bigger line.

The monthly fee is not the only charge. Buyers report FX markups, accruals billed in advance, health insurance charged after an employee leaves and deposits that take months to come back (Trustpilot reviews of Multiplier, Aug 2026; Oyster, Feb 2026). Playroll lists a refundable deposit of one month's salary per employee. Read EOR pricing and hidden fees and the best EOR providers ranked by score before you pick one.

What the calculator leaves out

  • Countries with only part of the cost confirmed. Chile, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Romania, Saudi Arabia and other countries where we could confirm only some contributions are left out of the calculator.
  • The second figure when a country has two. The calculator uses the first rate in each country row. That means Colombia 34.2% (exempt company; 47.7% if not exempt), Australia 12% (super only; 18.10% with New South Wales payroll tax), South Korea 9.97% (18.30% with the retirement allowance accrual), Israel 19.66% (6% severance; 21.99% at 8.33%), China 32.7% (Shanghai) and the UAE 3.50% (expatriate). Check the country page if the other case fits your hire.
  • Industry accident insurance. Germany's BG, Thailand's Workmen's Compensation Fund, South Africa's COIDA and Canada's provincial workers comp vary by sector.
  • Health insurance and visas. The UAE figure (3.50% end-of-service gratuity for expatriates) is before health insurance and visa costs.
  • Profit sharing and bonuses set by contract. Mexico's PTU profit sharing is excluded, and a 13th month or Christmas bonus that comes only from a collective agreement or contract (as in France and Germany) is not in the rate.
  • Deposits, FX and termination costs. Notice and severance rules are on each country page.
  • Brazil's work-risk rate and the Simples Nacional regime. Brazil's 50.9% assumes a regular-regime company with a 2% work-risk rate and includes the 13th salary and vacation bonus; the range is 49.22% to 55.33% by work-risk rate. See the Brazil EOR guide. India's 3.4% assumes provident fund on the Rs 25,000 ceiling, not on full wages; see the India EOR guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to employ someone in another country?
Salary plus mandatory employer contributions plus any EOR fee. In our data, contributions on a salary of about USD 40,000 run from 0.79% in Thailand to 50.9% in Brazil, where the figure includes the 13th salary and vacation bonus (mostly official sources, checked October 16 and 17, 2026), and EOR list prices run from $399 to $699 per employee per month. A GBP 30,000 UK hire costs GBP 34,462.80 plus $7,188 a year at a $599 fee.
Why does the calculator use a salary of about USD 40,000?
Employer contribution rates often change with salary because of caps and floors, so each country's rate is measured at one typical professional salary of about USD 40,000 in local currency. Germany, for example, is 21.30% at EUR 35,000 but about 15.22% at EUR 120,000 because pension and health contributions stop at EUR 101,400 and EUR 69,750 (Deutsche Rentenversicherung and vdek, 2026).
Does the calculator include the EOR fee?
Yes, as a separate line. Enter the monthly fee in US dollars and the calculator multiplies it by 12. The default is $599, the published list price for Deel and Remote, checked October 16, 2026. It does not include deposits, FX markups or termination costs.
Is the result in dollars or local currency?
Both. Employer contributions are shown in the country's currency, because they are charged in that currency, and the EOR fee is shown in US dollars. The calculator does not convert, so use your EOR's exchange rate to add them up.
What is the employer cost in Mexico, Germany and the UK?
On the sample salaries in our data: Mexico 31.8% of MXN 740,000 (MXN 235,271, including aguinaldo, vacation premium and Mexico City payroll tax), Germany 21.30% of EUR 35,000 (EUR 7,455, before U1/U2 and accident insurance) and the UK 14.88% of GBP 30,000 (GBP 4,462.80). Sources are each country's official rate pages, checked October 16, 2026.
Are India and Brazil in the calculator?
Yes. India is 3.4% on INR 3,800,000 (provident fund on the Rs 25,000 monthly ceiling plus gratuity accrual) and Brazil is 50.9% on BRL 203,280 (35.8% of charges on pay including the 13th salary and vacation bonus, plus those bonuses), from official sources checked October 16 and 17, 2026. Vendor pages often get them wrong: Remote's country explorer showed 0% employer cost for India and Brazil when we checked in October 2026.
