Deel charges $599 per employee per month for its employer of record service (Deel pricing page, checked October 16, 2026). Remote's pricing page says "from $599", but a Remote support article updated March 11, 2026 gives a standard price of $699. Neither publishes a deposit amount or an FX margin.

Remote fits buyers who want the employing entity owned by the EOR and terms they can read, and who will manage a 12-month auto-renewing contract with at least an 8% renewal increase. Deel fits buyers who need more countries, contractors and a US PEO on one platform, and who will get Deel's deposit and notice terms in writing. On our EOR scores, Remote (62/100) ranks above Deel (54/100).

Deel and Remote sell almost the same products: employer of record (EOR), contractor payments, global payroll on your own entities, and a US PEO. The headline EOR price is the same $599 on both pricing pages. The differences are in what each tells you before you sign: Remote publishes its terms of service and order form terms, which are strict but readable; Deel publishes a short FAQ and little else, because its help center and EOR terms could not be read.

Side-by-side: price, hidden costs, terms and entities

Figures are from deel.com and remote.com pricing pages, Remote's terms of service (updated August 3, 2026) and order form terms, and Remote's support center, all checked October 16, 2026. Scores follow how we score EOR providers. Remote scores higher for its entity claim and published terms; Deel scores higher on price, because we score Remote at the $699 figure from its own support article.

The fee is the smaller part of the bill. Here is one employee on a USD 40,000 salary in India and in Brazil, with employer costs from official sources:

Employer costs from HRPricing country data (official sources, checked Oct 17, 2026). India: PF on the Rs 25,000 wage ceiling plus gratuity accrual. Brazil: INSS 20%, RAT 2%, terceiros 5.8%, FGTS 8%, 13th salary and vacation one-third, regular regime. Converted at ECB cross rates of Oct 16, 2026. Deposits and FX margins not included.

Add two more lines before you budget. First, a deposit: if Deel asks for one month's gross salary, as one secondary source says it typically does, that is $40,000 / 12 = $3,333.33 held until about 30 days after the employee leaves. Second, FX: neither vendor publishes its margin, but every 1% on a $3,333.33 monthly salary costs $33.33 a month, or $400 a year. Run your own country through the international employee cost calculator, or compare countries in the employer cost by country index.

Hidden costs: deposits, FX, renewals and exit

Deposits

Deel publishes no deposit policy, and its help center blocks automated reading. A secondary source (Costbench, citing a competitor) says Deel typically asks for about one month's gross salary per employee, refunded about 30 days after offboarding, and a 2021 Deel blog post says refunds are issued as credit notes. One Hacker News founder hiring in Mexico through Deel said they were "required to provide the mandatory severance up front" (January 2023). Remote's terms say it "may require" a reserve or standby letter of credit, with no amount, and its startup program waives deposits. Ask both for the amount, what it is based on, and whether it comes back as cash or credit.

FX

Deel says it provides "competitive exchange rates". Remote invoices at the "Remote FX Rate", which its support center says varies with volume, currency volatility and conversion cost, and its terms allow "a transaction fee or margin". Neither publishes a percentage. You can avoid much of this by asking to be invoiced in the currency you hold.

Contract length and renewals

Remote's default terms run 12 months and renew automatically for another 12, unless you give notice at least 30 days before the term ends. Order forms raise the price at renewal by the greater of 8% or US inflation: on $699 that is at least $699 x 1.08 = $754.92 a month in year two; on $599, $646.92. Leaving early means paying the Minimum Contract Value shortfall. Remote also offers a pay-as-you-go plan; ask for it if you want to keep the option to leave. Deel's FAQ promises month-to-month pricing, but its US PEO promotion (three months of platform fees credited, order forms signed July 15 to December 31, 2026) requires a two-year minimum and full list price if you end early.

Terminating an employee

Neither lists an offboarding fee. Remote passes severance through at cost. Deel's EOR terms could not be read, so its notice rules for ending a worker's contract are not published. In either case the country's notice, severance and final-pay rules apply, and in some countries they are large: Brazil adds a 40% fine on all FGTS deposits for dismissal without cause. See EOR costs in Brazil and EOR costs in India.

Remote's country pages show 0% employer cost for India and Brazil

When we checked Remote's country explorer pages in October 2026, the India page showed employer provident fund at 0.00% and income tax tables at 0%, and the Brazil page showed employer INSS and FGTS at 0.0% in its table (while the text says FGTS is 8%) and a 2025 minimum wage of R$1,518. Do not budget from those tables.

The official figures are different. In India, employer PF is 12% of wages up to the Rs 25,000 monthly ceiling, in force since September 17, 2026, and gratuity accrues at 15 days' wages per year; on a USD 40,000 salary that comes to about 3.4%. In Brazil, employer INSS (20%), RAT (2% in our example), terceiros (5.8%) and FGTS (8%) add 35.8% of pay, and with the 13th salary and vacation one-third the total is 50.9% of base salary. Brazil's minimum wage is R$1,621 from January 1, 2026.

This does not mean Remote bills those countries wrongly; its quotes are separate from its explorer pages. It means you should check any vendor's country guide against official sources, and ask the EOR for an itemized cost estimate before you make an offer.

Who owns the entity that employs your worker

An EOR's local entity is the legal employer. If the EOR owns it, one company answers for payroll, benefits and termination. If it uses a local partner, a second company sits in the chain, and reviewers of several EORs describe blame passed between the two when something goes wrong.

  • Remote makes the strongest claim in the market: "100% owned entities, no third parties" in 90+ countries. Its country count is the lowest of the big providers, but it is consistent.
  • Deel claims "wholly-owned entities", but the same EOR page, read earlier, said it owned entities in 130+ countries while serving 150+, which points to partners in the gap. Deel's pages give three different EOR country counts: 100+, 130+ and 150+.

Ask either provider, for your specific country, whether the employing entity is its own and what it is called. Our best employer of record rankings compare entity claims across every EOR we score.

Choose Remote if

  • You want the employing entity owned by the EOR in every country it serves.
  • You want contract terms you can read before you sign, even strict ones.
  • You are an eligible startup: no deposit or setup fees and 15% off for 12 months.
  • You pay contractors and want indemnity: CM Plus is $99 with $100,000 cover per contractor.
  • You will ask for the pay-as-you-go plan, or put the renewal notice date, 30 days before each term ends, in your calendar.

Switching between Deel and Remote

Contractors move easily: start paying them on the new platform and end the old agreement. EOR employees do not, because the EOR is their legal employer.

  1. Check your exit window. On Remote, give written notice at least 30 days before the term ends to stop auto-renewal, or you are in for another 12 months at up to 8% more. Leaving mid-term owes the Minimum Contract Value shortfall. On Deel, check your order form for any promotional minimum term.
  2. Plan the transfer with both providers. The worker signs a new employment contract with the new EOR's entity. Ask both how tenure, accrued leave, notice periods and benefits carry over, and whether the old EOR will treat the move as a termination that triggers severance.
  3. Recover the deposit. Deel's refunds may come as credit notes; ask for cash if you are leaving entirely. Remote's reserve terms are in its terms of service, section 2.6.
  4. Line up pay dates. Avoid a gap or a double payment in the switch month, and confirm who files the final local tax and social security returns.
  5. Compare the new quote item by item: fee, deposit, FX method, renewal increase and notice. See EOR vs your own entity if you have enough staff in one country to open a subsidiary.

Documented complaints

Deel

  • Payroll errors: a missed raise (October 14, 2026), an employer who must reject the payroll "at least once every time" (October 13, 2026), and a missed Japan resident tax deduction (September 26, 2026).
  • Slow support behind an AI bot (October 14 and 15, 2026).
  • Platform outages and a signed contract changed afterwards (October 15 and September 30, 2026).
  • Fees too high for small teams and low-paid contractors: one contractor paid "almost 100$ each month just to make a transfer" (Hacker News).

Source for dated reviews: Deel on Trustpilot, 4.6 from 9,652 reviews (seen October 16, 2026).

Remote

We could not establish a complaint pattern. Remote's Trustpilot page shows 4.6 from 3,502 reviews, but no one-to-three-star reviews were visible on page one and the low-star filter was blocked. Trustpilot's AI summary mentions slow support, recurring payroll errors and hard-to-resolve financial issues, which we could not tie to dated reviews. Visible reviews include "Always Payed on time". This does not mean Remote has fewer problems than Deel; it means we could not see them.

Other EOR comparisons

Deel is also compared in Deel vs Oyster and Deel vs Rippling. For the choice between an EOR and other models, see EOR vs global payroll and PEO vs EOR.

Bottom line: Both list $599 per employee, but Remote's own support article says $699, and Remote's terms auto-renew for 12 months with at least 8% added at renewal. Deel is simpler to leave on paper but publishes no deposit, FX or notice terms. Remote claims fully owned entities in 90+ countries; Deel covers more countries with a weaker ownership claim. On our EOR scores, Remote (62/100) ranks above Deel (54/100).

Frequently asked questions

Is Deel or Remote cheaper for an employer of record?
Both pricing pages show $599 per employee per month (checked October 16, 2026), but a Remote support article updated March 11, 2026 gives its standard price as $699. At $699, Remote costs $1,200 more per employee per year than Deel (12 x $100). Remote's startup program takes 15% off for 12 months and waives deposits.
Does Deel require a deposit?
Deel does not publish a deposit policy on its pricing or EOR pages (checked October 16, 2026). A secondary source, Costbench citing a competitor, says Deel typically asks for about one month's gross salary per employee, refunded about 30 days after offboarding, and a 2021 Deel blog says refunds come as credit notes. Ask for the amount in writing.
Can I cancel Remote at any time?
Not on the default terms. Remote's terms of service (updated August 3, 2026) set a 12-month initial term that auto-renews for 12 months, with at least 30 days' written notice to end it. Order forms add a renewal increase of the greater of 8% or US CPI and a Minimum Contract Value shortfall on early exit. Remote also offers a pay-as-you-go plan.
Does Remote use local partners?
Remote says it uses "100% owned entities, no third parties" for its EOR in 90+ countries (remote.com, checked October 16, 2026). Deel says it works through wholly owned entities, but its own pages give 130+ owned-entity countries against 150+ covered.
What does an EOR employee in India or Brazil really cost?
On a USD 40,000 salary, employer contributions add about 3.4% in India ($1,360) and 50.9% in Brazil ($20,360, including the 13th salary and vacation one-third), per official sources checked October 17, 2026. With a $599 EOR fee, a year costs $48,548 in India and $67,548 in Brazil before any deposit or FX margin. Remote's country explorer pages show 0% for several of these items, so do not budget from them.
Which is better for contractors, Deel or Remote?
Remote is cheaper on its pricing page: Contractor Management from $29 per active contractor, or $99 for CM Plus with $100,000 indemnity per contractor. Deel charges $49 per contractor. Both charge $325 for Contractor of Record, where the provider takes on classification risk (checked October 16, 2026).
