BBSI PEO review: pricing, workers' comp and benefits
We may earn a commission when you sign up through some links on this page. Commissions never change our scores or the order of our lists. How we make money.
BBSI does not publish a price. Its pricing page says "BBSI does not use flat or one-size-fits-all pricing" and bases each quote on headcount, workforce mix, turnover, loss history and job risk (checked October 16, 2026). Health benefits sit in an optional "More Ways to Grow" add-on, not in the Core package.
BBSI scores 26 out of 100, the highest of the smaller PEOs we track, helped by published support hours and a plain workers' comp promise: "Payroll-based premiums with no deposits or year-end audits." We did not find BBSI on the IRS active certified PEO list.
BBSI is a professional employer organization (PEO) that serves clients through local branches, with payroll, HR and workers' comp in a Core package and health benefits as an add-on, priced by quote.

How BBSI prices
BBSI tells you more about its pricing than most quote-only PEOs. It names five inputs, and three of them (turnover, loss history and job risk) are risk measures, so expect your claims record and job mix to move the quote. A company with field crews and past injuries will be priced very differently from an office team of the same size.
| Factor | What to have ready for the quote |
|---|---|
| Headcount | Current employees and expected hires for the next 12 months. |
| Workforce mix | How many people work in offices versus field, driving or warehouse roles, by job class code. |
| Turnover | Hires and separations over the last year or two. |
| Loss history | Your workers' comp loss runs (claims history) from your current carrier. |
| Job risk | Job descriptions for each role, so class codes are assigned correctly. |
Factors from bbsi.com/pricing, checked Oct 16, 2026. Preparation notes are HRPricing guidance.
Because the quote leans on risk, a BBSI number is hard to compare with a flat per-employee fee. Industry admin fees run about $40 to $160 a head monthly, or 2% to 12% of payroll, by ADP's count (guide updated July 14, 2026); Justworks' cheapest PEO plan is $79 a head (October 16, 2026). Ask BBSI to split its quote into admin fee, workers' comp and benefits so you can compare each part.
| Employees | $40 per employee | $160 per employee | Justworks Basic $79 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | $200 | $800 | $395 |
| 10 | $400 | $1,600 | $790 |
| 25 | $1,000 | $4,000 | $1,975 |
BBSI publishes no rates; columns use ADP's industry range and Justworks' posted Basic price, times headcount.
Our guide to PEO costs shows how premiums and state unemployment tax rates add to these figures.
Workers' comp with no deposits or audits
BBSI's pricing page promises "Payroll-based premiums with no deposits or year-end audits." In BBSI's description, premiums are charged with each payroll, with no deposit and no audit bill after the year ends.
That answers a complaint we found about another PEO. An ADP TotalSource customer wrote on Trustpilot (October 1, 2026) that "ADP is bundling their fees in admin fee and in the worker compensation fee," followed by a large audit bill. If BBSI's no-audit promise holds in your contract, that year-end surprise goes away, but ask how BBSI treats a job class change during the year and whether your rate per $100 of payroll is fixed for the contract year.
Health benefits are an add-on
Health benefits are not in BBSI's Core package. They come with "More Ways to Grow," and the pricing page names no plan types or carriers. That earned BBSI 6 of 20 for benefits access on our scale.
The split can work in your favor. If you already have a health plan you like, ask whether you can take Core alone and keep it. If you want BBSI's benefits, get Core and More Ways to Grow priced separately, with the carriers and plans available in your state. If workers' comp and HR are all you need, also price a payroll service instead of a PEO.
CPEO status and states
We did not find BBSI on the IRS active CPEO list dated August 7, 2026. It may certify under a different legal name, so ask which entity will co-employ your staff and check it on the list. If it is not certified, the 26 USC 3511 rules that make a certified PEO the employer for federal employment taxes do not apply, so ask in writing who is liable if a federal deposit is missed.
BBSI offers "multi-state compliance support" but lists no states. Confirm it covers each state where you have employees. Our certified PEO list shows which PEOs hold IRS certification.
Support: local branches, Pacific time hours
BBSI publishes more support detail than the other smaller PEOs we track: phone at (360) 828-0700, email at info@bbsi.com, hours of Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm Pacific, a local branch network, and a promise that a specialist contacts you within 24 hours of a form request. That earned 7 of 10 for support.
The hours are Pacific. On the East Coast, 8am to 5pm PT is 11am to 8pm ET, so morning payroll problems wait until late morning. Ask which branch would serve you and whether it keeps local hours.

BBSI reviews
We could not find review data to report. G2 has no BBSI product page we could locate, and BBSI's Trustpilot pages returned errors (October 16, 2026). We found no documented complaint pattern, which is a gap in the evidence, not proof of happy clients. Ask BBSI for references from clients in your industry, ideally ones with a workers' comp claim in the last year.

Who BBSI may suit, and what to compare
What works
- Names the five factors behind its price
- Workers' comp with no deposits or year-end audits
- Published phone, email and hours, plus local branches
Watch out for

BBSI fits a business with real workers' comp exposure, such as field or physical work, that wants local, in-person support. If you mainly want group health benefits in the base price or a certified PEO, compare:
- ADP TotalSource (44): workers' comp included in the service fee; certified.
- Insperity (33): workers' comp sits in its direct cost allocations, next to a fixed per-employee charge.
- Justworks (67): posted prices; workers' comp is required for PEO.
- TriNet (50): large-group benefits, premiums outside the fee.
- Paychex PEO (34): a safety specialist for clients on its master workers' comp policy.
