Rippling payroll pricing: what Rippling costs in 2026

Rippling does not publish a full price. Its pricing page says only that "Rippling plans start at $8 per employee per month, with a monthly base fee," and asks you to contact sales for a custom quote (checked October 16, 2026). The base fee is not stated, so the published floor for 10 employees is 10 × $8 = $80 a month plus a base fee of unknown size.

Forbes Advisor reported a $35 monthly base plus a per-employee fee from a quote (January 2026, as cited by Gusto, a competitor). Rippling prices by module, so payroll is only the first line of the bill once you add HR, time, benefits, IT or devices.

Rippling is a workforce platform that combines payroll with HR, IT, device management, global payroll, employer of record and PEO services, sold as modules priced per employee per month plus a base fee.

The $8 figure on Rippling's FAQ is not tied to a specific product, so it is a floor, not a payroll price. Rippling also says eligible venture-backed startups can use it free for six months.

Rippling has strong review scores (4.5 on Trustpilot), and the most common complaint about it is the bill itself. Our scores follow our published scoring method.

On the PEO: we did not find Rippling's name on the IRS active CPEO list (report dated August 7, 2026). A PEO can certify under a different legal entity name, so ask Rippling which entity would employ your staff and whether it is certified. Compare PEO prices on what a PEO costs per employee.

What Rippling costs for 5, 10 and 25 employees

Rippling gives a per-employee floor but no base fee, so any total is an estimate. The first row uses only Rippling's number. The second adds the $35 base Forbes Advisor reported (January 2026, as cited by Gusto, a competitor), as an illustration, not a quote.

For comparison, published prices for 10 employees: Gusto Simple $109, Gusto Plus $200 (Gusto pricing), Patriot Full Service $87 (Patriot review). Rippling's floor looks competitive, but reviewers say the bill climbs as modules are added.

Ask for a quote that lists the base fee, each module's per-employee price, the contract length, any implementation fee and the renewal price. Price it at your headcount a year from now, since every module scales with employees. Payroll service costs compared shows other providers on the same basis.

What the starting price leaves out

  • Modules: HR, time, benefits, IT, devices, global payroll and EOR are priced separately. Capterra reviewers (eight reviews, September 2025 to August 2026) say costs climb with each module and with headcount (Capterra).
  • The base fee: charged monthly, amount not published.
  • Contract length, implementation fees and minimums: not stated on Rippling's pages.
  • State registration: Rippling does not say it registers state tax accounts, and a Capterra reviewer (May 11, 2026) said they had to register with state agencies themselves.

A Hacker News thread raised the same budgeting problem with modular pricing (HN).

Tax filing guarantee: what Rippling publishes

We found no penalty guarantee on Rippling's pricing or payroll compliance pages, and its terms of service page could not be loaded when we checked (October 16, 2026). Treat it as unconfirmed.

Before you sign, ask Rippling which clause covers penalties and interest caused by a Rippling filing error, whether there is a cap, and how fast you must send them a notice. Published terms elsewhere set the bar: QuickBooks Elite pays penalties and interest up to $25,000 a year with notice within 15 days; Gusto pays penalties (interest not named) with notice 30 days before the agency deadline. See Gusto vs Rippling for that comparison.

Contract, cancellation and W-2 access after you leave

Rippling does not publish cancellation terms, notice periods or how long you keep access to payroll records after leaving; its terms page failed to load when we checked. Because those terms live in your order form, get these answers in writing before you sign:

  1. Is the contract monthly or annual, and does it auto-renew?
  2. How much notice do you need to give, and in what form?
  3. Can you drop a module mid-term, or only at renewal?
  4. How long can former admins download W-2s, Forms 941 and 940, state filings and payroll registers?
  5. Do former employees keep access to pay stubs and W-2s?
  6. What does Rippling charge to file final quarter and year-end returns after you leave?

Published terms from other providers vary a lot: Patriot lets former customers keep downloading W-2s, QuickBooks keeps payroll data a year, and Wave ends access at the end of the month you cancel (Wave Payroll review).

Rippling support

Rippling offers a Help Center and an HR Help Desk. It does not publish support hours. Capterra reviewers say only administrators can reach live support and that answers on complex issues are slow (Capterra). If managers or employees will need help directly, ask how they get it.

What Rippling customers say

Rippling has 4.7 out of 5 from 14,535 reviews on G2 and 4.5 out of 5 from 2,548 reviews on Trustpilot (both seen October 16, 2026). Both are much higher than the Trustpilot scores for Gusto (1.9), Paychex (1.7) or ADP (1.2).

  • Hard to budget: very common. Costs rise with modules and headcount (Capterra, eight reviews).
  • Support: slow on complex issues; live support only for admins.
  • State setup: one client had to register with state agencies themselves (May 11, 2026).
  • Benefits deductions: an employer health fund contribution shown twice (December 29, 2025).

How we score Rippling

Rippling scores 21 out of 100, against 32 for ADP and 69 for Gusto. The low number reflects how little Rippling publishes: no full price, no tax guarantee and no contract or exit terms (0 of 15). Its public review signal is the strongest part of its score. If Rippling gives you those terms in writing, judge them against the criteria below.

How Rippling scores: 21 out of 100 (payroll category)
CriterionPointsWhy
Price transparency and cost for 10 employees3 of 25Quote only; the FAQ says plans 'start at $8 per employee per month, with a monthly base fee' but gives no base fee, so no 10-employee cost can be computed (3 of 10 transparency, 0 of 15 cost).
Tax filing coverage and guarantee3 of 20Says it tracks federal, state and local rules without publishing filing coverage (3 of 10); no tax guarantee terms were found and its terms page returned an error (0 of 10).
Features8 of 20Contractor payments, multi-state rules, a PEO option for benefits and 'many app integrations' are mentioned without plan detail (2 each); time tracking is not published on the pages we checked (0).
Contract and exit terms0 of 15Cancellation terms, record access after leaving, contract length and implementation fees are not published on the pages we checked (0).
Support access1 of 10Help Center and HR Help Desk only, with Capterra reviewers saying only admins reach live support (1); hours not published (0).
Documented complaint patterns6 of 10Trustpilot 4.5 from 2,548 reviews for all of Rippling (4 of 4); modular pricing that is hard to budget (very common), slow support on complex issues (several) and state registrations left to the client (once) leave 2 of 6.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Rippling payroll cost?
Rippling's pricing page (checked October 16, 2026) says plans start at $8 per employee per month plus a monthly base fee, and every product is quoted. The base fee is not published. Gusto, a competitor, cites Forbes Advisor (January 2026) reporting a $35 monthly base plus a per-employee fee from a quote; Rippling has not published that figure.
Does Rippling charge a base fee?
Yes. Rippling's pricing FAQ says plans start at $8 per employee per month 'with a monthly base fee,' but it does not give the amount (checked October 16, 2026). Is Rippling cheaper than Gusto?
Not at 10 employees on the floor price, if the base is $35: Rippling's $8 per employee plus the $35 base Forbes Advisor reported (January 2026, cited by competitor Gusto) is $35 + (10 × $8) = $115 a month, against Gusto Simple at $109 and Gusto Plus at $200 (Gusto pricing, checked October 16, 2026). Rippling quotes rise with each module, so compare the full quote.
How do I cancel Rippling?
Rippling does not publish cancellation terms or a notice period; they are set in your order form. Ask before signing whether the contract is annual, how much notice you must give, and how long former admins can download W-2s and tax filings.
